Rules and Best Practices

Students

We expect our students to:

  • Wear their uniform (if they have one)
  • Stay in their training area during the entire class
  • Respect their coaches and teammates
  • Train hard
  • Use only equipment needed for class

Parents

We recommend parents to:

(Before class)

  • Ensure they have a good night’s sleep and breakfast
  • Pump them up about class
  • View the class agenda beforehand through the app
  • Create a safe training area free of distractions
  • Join class 5 mins early
  • Set up the camera device so we can see the child’s full body

(During)

  • Follow the class on the side or be a cheerleader

(After)

  • Ask them about class
  • Train with them
  • Share feedback with us

Which class should my child join?

Students can join any online classes but we recommend them to join first the same class level they participate at the gym.

  • 4pm Wednesday (Fundamentals)
  • 10am Saturday (Intermediate)
  • 10 Sunday (Advanced)
How do I join?
  1. Install Zoom https://zoom.us/download on your preferred device (ie: cellphone, tablet, laptop) that can access the internet with a decent speed connection (see requirements). Ideally with a wide screen to follow the classes and see teammates.
  2. Check your email for the Zoom meeting invite link.
  3. Join 5 min before the class starting time.
  4. Install your device in a way that we can see your child’s body and feet. It will greatly help coaches to provide feedback.
  5. If preferred, feel free to mute and deactivate the video camera during class. Please remember that students typically enjoy seeing each other train.
How do I sign up?

You can either sign up to online classes on your own using your Mindbody account or ask us to register your child for the same class(es) every week.

How long is the class?
  • 35 min for Fundamentals classes
  • 40 min for Intermediate classes
  • 45 min for Advanced classes
Should parents jump in the class too?

Since not every parents are available during our online classes and students can see each other, we asked parents to not be in the video. Parents can still take the class to motivate their children but shouldn’t being seen on the video.

Should I assist my child during class?

As long as the child is ok with that. As always, keep it positive and playful. At Bel Air, if a student refuses to participate, we move on after the 1st, 2nd or 3rd prompt depending on how flexible is the child.

Is the class recorded?

Classes are recorded and shared to Bel Air parents only.

What should my child bring?

A water bottle.

Optional materials that might be needed depending on the classes:

  • Pillow
  • Small ball that can be hold with one hand (a pair of sock fold into a ball is fine)
Does my child need to wear the uniform?

Yes! It will help them to be mentally prepared to transition away from their current activity and start Jiu-Jitsu class.

How much space is needed?

6×6 ft free of any furniture or clutter is recommended.

Do I need gym mats?
It’s nice if you do but carpet or rug would do just fine. If you are interested in buying mats, here are some references:

– Gymnastic mat ($100×2)
